Ben Lowry: Smoking ban silliness

Smoking is banned in hospital grounds
A psychiatric patient in Northern Ireland is challenging the smoking ban in hospital grounds.

As a non smoker, I hope she wins.

The woman is unable to leave the hospital for months (to protect her own safety).

To force a cigarette addict to abstain in those circumstances is akin to torture.

I also feel that smokers who visit someone who is dying or in intensive care should of course be allowed to nip outside for a smoke. This sort of thing happens a lot with human nature.

A good idea (in this case curbing smoking) is pushed to silly extremes.
